Week 4 Reflections

This is my first "full" week of teaching, and by the end of the week I was exhausted. I feel that I am grasping teaching concepts more and more and I think my students are finally getting used to me. The week started out with our ESGA fundraiser. We were able to fundraise $72 dollars for the club, which I and the other interns thought was well worth the trip. I have taken over all of the 20th Century US History this week. Most of my weekend was spent on lesson planning and grading papers. I prepared a PowerPoint for them to see. I think it went over well. CB is big on project based learning and I am testing it out in my class. It works in some classes but some classes do not seem to be at a maturity level high enough to do it. I found many of them getting off topic. But I think I kept up on it with walking around the classroom and assisting as needed.

There are two “issues” that I have found with teaching. One is that I hate grading papers. It is so much to keep up with, but I think I am getting better at keeping up with it. The other is make-up work. It is crazy trying to keep up with it. Students are not good at keeping up with it and it takes so much of your class period trying to get them up to date. Because of that, I have set up a blog site for homework. It allows students to go onto it and find the work they missed, it also allows parents to go on and see what their students are doing. After I update the site I print off the assignments and post them on the bulletin board in the classroom for students to look at.
